Tuesday: Graded discussion; return DoaS and check out The Things They Carried. Intro to TTTC and read ch. 1 of TTTC. Homework – Choices – Seattle Times TTTC Oy, due to the fact that we had the book foul-up, you ONLY need to read the first chapter of The Things They Carried.
Wednesday: (split) Discuss Times article and TTTC. Homework — Love and Spin.
Thursday: Small groups construct character list; reading time. Homework — On the Rainy River

Monday: Discuss Gunn Allen’s article. Homework — review the reading from the end of last week.
Tuesday: Read rebuttal to Gunn Allen, discuss reading in small groups and then as whole class. Homework — Read pp. 213 – mid 241.
Wednesday: Finish yesterday’s discussion. Homework — Read pp. 213 – 241. Why does Tayo rejoin the boys? Has he learning nothing? Also, bring in all of the graded writing that you have from this year in my class and Sherwood’s.
Thursday: Writing work. Homework — pp. 241 – mid. 253.
Friday: What happens around the fire and why? Discuss the literal and symbolic events. Homework — Finish the novel. (And Alex cheers wildly!) Come up with three questions having to do with the novel. Make them the three most pressing questions you have about it. And type them, please.

Monday: Collect and review reading questions from break; discuss reading. Homework — Read pages 55 -middle of 71; why is the poem on pp. 57-59 presented as a myth/poem?
Tuesday: Discuss Huck test; come in prepared to discuss and write about the effects of the Indian Schools and uranium mining, as well as the reading for today. Discuss the final writing assignment. Homework — Read from the middle of page 71 to the middle of page 100.
Wednesday: Sherwood.
Thursday: Receive/discuss Huck tests; discuss reading in small groups and then as whole class; discuss plot and structure. Homework — Read page 100 – the bottom of page 118. Pick one symbolic element, character, or plotline to study and present to your group. Sign up in class.

Monday: I was out today, but will be back Tuesday. Please read chapter 8 (this has been on the board since last week, so it shouldn’t be news) and come in prepared to discuss how the characters in the novel attempt to reinvent themselves and why they are or aren’t able to do so.
Tuesday: How do the characters in the novel attempt to reinvent themselves. Why are or aren’t they able to? Can we, in the United States today, reinvent ourselves? How much are we locked into class, gender, or ethnic identity? Homework — Read chapter 9.
Wednesday: Read NYT article and responses. With whom do you agree? Why? Listen to part of Studio 360 on Gatsby. Homework — playlist due Friday.
